History and Culture: General Information
Researchers from across the country come to the Heritage Library for its breadth of material and the knowledgeable help they receive from our volunteers. Much of this material – especially about Hilton Head history -- is not readily available from other sources.

Collections include census data pertaining to Hilton Head from both the Federal government and the useful census data collected by the State of South Carolina immediately following the Civil War as well as histories of the plantations that existed on the island, indexes for maps, land certificates and indentures, and a collection of material on Colored Troops from pension and other records.
